Since 1972, Columbia Association (CA) has been bringing people together at the CA Lakefront – one of Columbia’s favorite gathering places.
As a community services organization, we care for the Lakefront and the many spaces, facilities and programs that foster connection and help Columbia feel like home. One of our favorite ways to bring that to life is Lakefront Live.
This free entertainment series is all about community and making memories together. From longtime traditions like Dancin’ Under the People Tree and movie nights under the stars to new additions that keep things fresh, there’s something for everyone.
We’re thrilled to once again partner with our friends at the Merriweather Arts & Culture Center (MACC), who bring an incredible lineup of local, national and international artists to the Lakefront. This year marks an exciting new chapter as we debut the CA Lakefront Stage – a vibrant, permanent home for live music and arts in the community.
We invite you to bring a blanket, bring your friends or simply bring yourself this summer. We’ll bring the line-up of fun.
Welcome to the CA Lakefront.
As you explore the Lakefront, here’s the story behind a few of its landmarks:
- The CA Lakefront Stage: This brand-new addition is designed to take the Lakefront entertainment experience to the next level. Come out this summer to be part of its very first chapter.
- Lake Kittamaqundi: This scenic 27-acre lake – one of three cared for by CA – gets its name from a Native American term meaning “meeting place.” We think that couldn’t be more fitting.
- The People Tree: A beloved symbol of Columbia since 1967, this sculpture represents a community rooted in growth, connection and well-being. Look closely and you’ll see human figures forming its branches. It’s also home to one of our favorite Friday traditions, Dancin’ Under the People Tree.
- “The Dealings” statue: The life-sized bronze figures are Columbia’s visionary founder, James Rouse, with his brother, Willard – a reminder of Rouse’s vision for a better community for all people.
- Vivian C. “Millie” Bailey Park: Named after a Columbia veteran who lived to 104 years old, this park has open space for relaxing and connecting, a slide and large domed climber for kids to play on and is home to the Howard County Veteran and Military Families Monuments.
